Stephen Makin

Stephen qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and has spent most of his professional career as an in-house lawyer in financial services. He spent 18 years at Norwich and Peterborough Building Society, 14 of which were as Head of Legal. Since leaving, Stephen has worked for the FSA in the General Counsel's Division (where he drafted BCOBS) and in private practice, firstly with a niche Gibraltar practice and then with Addleshaw Goddard LLP. Stephen was also Senior Legal Counsel with Barclays UK Retail and Business Bank. Stephen is now Senior Legal Counsel, Retail Banking & Wealth Management, HSBC Bank Plc.

Stephen has been a contributor to Goode's Consumer Credit Law and Practice since 2004 and is also an editor of Butterworths Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 Annotated and the Encyclopedia of Banking Law. He is a member of the British Bankers Association Legal Advisory Panel and the Council of Mortgage Lenders Legal Advisory Panel.

Stephen lives in Cambridgeshire. He lists playing the violin, collecting guitars and riding a Harley Davidson as his interests.
